Wet Wide World

Wet Wide World

April 25, 2023

It’s raining cats and dogs all over the world, and many places that thought they’d never have a flood are dealing with high water.

Even in your neck of the woods, flooding is more likely than ever to happen.

If you’re not sure if you have flood coverage, you most likely don’t. Flooding by rising water is not covered under your homeowner policy.

Here are some tips to see if you need Flood Insurance:

  • Rising Water — Flood Insurance covers damage due to rising water. If you live near a water source or if you’ve experienced water in your basement, it could happen to you.
  • Flood Zone — Look online to see if your address is in a flood zone. Even if it isn’t, flooding can happen during heavy rains.
  • Elevation — Water flows downhill. You may be safe on a peak, but if you’re on a slope or at the bottom, you’re a prime target for high water.

Flood Insurance is a nationally backed program, so rates can often be better than expected.

Even if you decide you don’t need it, it’s always good to know more about flooding - especially when it's happening in places you’d least expect.
